IST Google Earth Project

Welcome to the IST 'My Places' Google Earth Project

The aim of this project is to produce an overlay for Google Earth which includes all the places that are important or special for people from the IST community.

The places could be where you go on holiday, where you were born or just a favourite place to spend time. You can send in as many places as you want.

All you need to do is follow the steps below to produce a placemark and description. Richard Allaway will produce the overlay and update it as more placemarks are added.

How to produce a placemark and description

  1. Open Google Earth on your computer. If Google Earth isn't already installed - click on the link at the bottom of this page.
  2. Find your important or special location using the various tools available such as zoom and search.
  3. Click the 'Add a placemark' button in the bottom right-hand corner of the page. It looks like a map pin. Or press Ctrl + N.
  4. A box will appear where you can name the placemark and enter a description. Remember to add your name to the description and then click OK
  5. To send your placemark(s) to Richard Allaway - right click on your placemark and choose 'Email' and follow the onscreen instructions. Richard Allaway's email address is geographyalltheway@gmail.com.
  6. If that fails - right click on your placemark and then 'Save As'. Save the placemark on your computer and send it to Richard Allaway as an attachment.
  7. Any problems email Richard Allaway.
